Structure TopYacht is competitor based not sail number based. But in most places you can chose the competitor by sail number or a boat name. A competitor consists of a skipper and a boat (with a class and with a sail number) and if appropriate a crew(s). If the skipper changes boat or sail number or crew then his/her competitor ID ( and hence scores to date) remains with the skipper. Identical sail numbers on different boats are automatically catered for both across classes and even within a class.
How TopYacht scores a race using times. For a particular series: Each boat is entered into the computer as a member of a class/type of boat. Each class is then allocated to a division. Each division is allocated to a particular start for each race. Each start is given a start time. Individual finish times are recorded for each boat. From the start and finish times an elapsed time is established for each boat. If yardsticks are being used then the elapsed time is multiplied by the time correction factor (generated by the yardstick or CBH) to give the corrected time. If yard sticks are not being used then the elapsed time becomes the corrected time. Finally if performance handicaps are being used then the corrected time is multiplied by the handicap of this boat. This gives the Handicap Corrected Time. As equations it looks like this. Elapsed time = Finish Time - Start time. Corrected Time = Time Correction Factor * Elapsed Time. TIME ON TIME... Handicap Corrected Time = HandiCap * Corrected Time. TIME ON DISTANCE... Handicap Corrected Time = Elapsed Time - Distance* Rating Each Series can provide one or many different types of results (know as Group Results) for each race. You may chose Elapsed Time results and also personal HC results. OR, several different types of personal HC results, OR ...... There is no end to the possibilities. When the race has been processed you can then print out any/all of the "Group Results".
